Non-Verbal Cognitive Assessments
What are non-verbal cognitive assessments?
A nonverbal intelligence test measures nonverbal reasoning. This assessment is used to assess individual who have disabilities or impairments in language or motor abilities (e.g. traumatic brain injury, post-stroke syndrome, deafness, aphasia or other language disorders).
At Picton Psychology we offer Nonverbal Intelligence Assessments for adults and children aged from 6 years. These tests can provide an estimate of overall nonverbal intelligence. No oral responses, reading, writing, or object manipulation is required, clients can simply point to an option as a response.
What are the benefits of assessment?
The Comprehensive Test of Nonverbal Intelligence (CTONI-2) measures several types of nonverbal reasoning skills. Through pictures and pointing responses, individuals solve problems using analogies, classification skills, and logical sequences. Subtests include:
- Pictorial analogies
- Geometric analogies
- Pictorial categories
- Pictorial sequences, and
- Geometric sequences
The CTONI-2 removes verbal intelligence from the assessment of reasoning abilities and to isolate and assess the individuals visual learning skills.
What are the tests used for assessments?
Our experienced psychologists provide nonverbal assessments for children 6 years and above, adolescents and adults, utilising the following assessment.
Comprehensive Test of Nonverbal Intelligence (CTONI-2), for children and adults aged 10 to 90 years.
What does the assessment process look like?
The process of a nonverbal intelligence assessment involves four stages:
- Initial appointment to perform a through interview in order to obtain all relevant background information.
- Administration of CTONI-2
- Your psychologist will complete a comprehensive report, including suggestions for intervention and recommendations for home, school or work.
- Feedback session to discuss the results of the Nonverbal Intelligence assessment and the report.
